Fantom Pocong is a unique new NFT project based on the Fantom blockchain platform. It comprises of 10000 artworks. The art is based on the legend of Pocong or Shroud Ghost, which are said to be the soul of a dead person trapped in their burial shroud. Fantom Pocong is part of a growing number of NFT projects on Fantom, an innovative new platform designed for supporting complex blockchain applications.
Lore:
According to Indonesian-Malaysian traditions, since the 15th century, the bodies of the dead are wrapped in shrouds instead of burning them. The souls are said to depart after 40 days, so the shroud must be untied again to let them leave the earth. If the shroud remains untied, it is said that the body will jump out of the ground to warn people to untie the shroud.
Over the next five to six centuries, many large scale riots occurred. The region was thrown into chaos. Many lives were lost, though the exact figure remains unknown. Some say a few hundred thousand, others say more than a million. The one thing was known for sure; a lot of the shrouds failed to be untied.
The bodies turned into ghosts and emerged out of the ground. And 10,000 of them jumped onto the Fantom blockchain, to withstand the censor-addicted government.
Features:
Each artwork features unique traits of the Pocong, such as the site of death, or a cause. Some Pocong have unique features such as a distinctive reason for death, such as mass killings hidden from public view, and some deliberately killed in order to provoke fear among the people. This increases their value due to rarity.
Each Pocong is minted for a price of 1 FTM, and there is a 2.5% royalty that goes to the team from any secondary sales. Besides this, you can also get your hands on these at a promotional event, or a giveaway.
The project is based on the innovative Fantom blockchain. Fantom is a new and highly scalable blockchain platform. Unlike older blockchains like Ethereum, Fantom is designed to be a high-performance platform for complex dApps, which often slow down on first-generation platforms.
Fantom uses a high-speed consensus mechanism, known as Lachesis, to tackle the problem of low speeds on blockchain networks. Unlike other scalability solutions, Fantom doesn’t forego security and decentralization in order to increase scalability. Instead, the new platform provides a more efficient for blockchain-based projects, which now do not have to worry about low speeds and transactions costs on traditional blockchain networks.
Inspiration:
The team behind the project not only wanted to show the legend of Pocong but also to shed light upon past acts of violence, especially ones involving abuse of basic human rights by corrupt rulers and governments.
Discussions on topics such as these are very uncomfortable and sensitive, because these issues often affect society and its people on a very deep basis, and are tied to the perception of national pride and identity. Governments tend to censor and suppress discussions on such topics because it threatens the stability of a society, and can on occasion bring into question the legitimacy of the rulers themselves.
Fantom Pocong wants the community, through its artwork, to encourage people to have conversations on such issues. Because when topics like these remain unresolved, they become the basis for future violence and result in the creation of a destructive cycle that continues to harm future generations. Even if the discussions are on a small scale, something is better than nothing.
