Ethermon - A world less ordinary

“The future of gaming is decentralized, cross-platform, and player-owned.”

Ethermon - A world less ordinary

A pioneer in the Ethereum-based blockchain gaming technologies, Ethermon has risen to be a first of its kind NFT game set in a decentralized virtual world entirely owned by its users. Set in a specially designed 3D world called Decentraland, it allows the users to create non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and build many more in-game assets that can be traded on OpenSea, the biggest market place for NFTs as of now. Since its launch in 2017, Ethermon has expanded to Matic Polygon platform, which is in fact much more affordable with very low gas fees. In 2019, the entire team was revamped and restocked for a second launch.

Objectives

Users have to collect and train eye catchy monsters called Ether Mons (or just ‘Mons’) in battles to participate in online play-to-earn game modes including the user friendly 2D RPG modes like PVP auto-battle tournaments and 3D MMORGP battles spanning the metaverse. Every win or loss of the Mon in a battle earns the users experience points that make the Mon stronger and faster for the next battle. Tickets and marks can also be collected in the virtual arena to upgrade the Mon or exchange energy.

THE POKEMON GO ANALOGY

Just like the popular augmented reality sensation Pokémon Go spins its tale around cute collectible pokémons, Ethermon is built around its monsters! They are born into the Decentraland with six battle-stats attributes: Health, speed, primary and secondary attack, and primary and secondary defense. Mons differ from one another based on their type, powers and generation. They can be bought from the official store, from third party players on secondary virtual markets, or even in-game.Recently, Ethermon has expanded to include the Polygon layer 2 ecosystem topped by the release of brand new Mons. The game’s user base has seen an exponential growth and now has over 179,000 users across the world! To accommodate for this growth, the team has brought forth the Genesis Reborn set with slightly different Genesis Mons and introduced a rarity system with some interesting classifications: COMMON, UNCOMMON, RARE, LEGENDARY and MYTHIC.

Each Ethermon has a unique ID that can be verified on the blockchain by anyone. Other digital assets of the game include Booster Shards, EXP Potions and Level Stones. As the distribution is limited, users are encouraged to collect as many skilled Mons as possible!

Token Talk

As the game circles around a play-to-earn mechanism, the Ethermon team has recently released an ERC-20 token called EMON on both Ethereum and Polygon blockchains. The earlier token EMONT released in 2017 has now been discontinued. Tokens are the user’s golden tickets to an assortment of NFTs like Mons, asset packs equipment, enhanced gameplay, meta upgrades and premium content.

How can one earn these tokens?

In order to earn EMON tokens, players first need to earn the off-chain, in-game currency MARKS and use it to create their NFTs which can be burnt or sold on virtual marketplaces like OpenSea and Voila! EMON tokens have been earned. Other ways to earn the tokens include questing and participating in in-game tournaments.

The Decentraland Dream

Ethermon has come a long way from being a new 2D NFT game on Ethereum to a full-fledged 3D multiplayer blockchain MMORGP. Users can now surf across the metaverse to find and battle new wild Mons. If the revamp wasn’t impressive enough, a feature to interact with adorable digital pets has been added. The developers are directing their focus towards packing in new content on Decentraland in the next few months.

Milestones

  1. Launched in 2017
  2. Relaunched in 2019 with a completely new team
  3. Cross platform features introduced in 2021
