Afrodroids Drones

Afrodroids recently launched their companion NFTs called "Drones" - check them out here or here. Incepthink built out the smart contract that had quite a few unique features.

Afrodroids is a collection of 12,117 pieces of art, based on the theme of Afrofuturism, and created by Owo Anietie, a Nigerian artist. Each piece of art depicts a dystopian future, where humanoid robots called Afrodroids have taken over an apocalyptic version of the earth. Besides this very creative backstory, 20% of the proceeds from the sale of each Afrodroid artwork goes to the Dream Catchers Academy for Girls, a non-profit Academy, offering educational opportunities, leadership skills, and a better life for street and underprivileged girls, through dance, drama, music, and visual arts. This gives every Afrodroid artwork a distinctive story and greatly enhances the value of the piece of artwork itself. You can find out more about the project here.

All Afrodroids holders can now mint a free Companion AfroDrone (gas fee only). It is a full generative project. Each Drone/Droid combo that remains together will possess future utility. If you are an Afrodroid holder but haven't minted your drone yet, visit https://www.afrodroidsdrone.io/ to mint one. Hurry up, minting is only open till 16th Feb 2022.

Features of the smart contract:

The smart contract is unique and one-of-a-kind, with a lot of features that have never been done before in a companion NFT.

  1. Very low gas minting
Our custom smart contract borrowed from Azuki's ERC721A and built on it to adapt it to companion NFTs. The gas for minting reduces with an increase in amount of drones minted. For 1 drone, at about 70 gwei, the minter paid about $20. For 12 drones, it was $90, bringing it to $7.5 per drone. For 40 drones, the minter paid approximately $255 - $6.4 per drone minted.

Check out our contract and the associated gas prices here.
  2. Self Updating
Our contract doesn't work in the form of a whitelist. Projects like CryptoDads, where a snapshot of wallet holders was taken and then those particular addresses are only allowed to mint, used a whitelist. Afrodrones is self updating - if you buy a drone on the secondary market that hasn't been claimed yet post launch, you can still claim your drone, since the smart contract keeps track of Afrodroids IDs already minted, and not wallet addresses that have already minted.
  3. Serial Order minting
The contract allows for minting from drone #1 - previously, almost all companion NFTs have worked such that if you own main project NFT #1234, you'd get companion NFT #1234. However, we have designed the contract to let people get NFTs starting from #1 - which allows people to be able to try and get the better ID numbers such as #69, #420, etc
  4. Mint as many as you like
Previously, projects have built their claiming portals in a way that forced you to mint the amount of main project NFTs that you owned. For example, if you owned 5 main project NFTs, you would have to mint 5 secondary project NFTs, and no lesser. But Afrodrones allows you to mint any number of drones from 1 up to the number of Droids you own.
Shows how many claims left + allows you to increase or decrease number.

If you would like to build something similar for your project, or would like to utilise our low-gas minting feature, fell free to reach out to us.
